Maverick’s long-awaited journey back to cinemas continues to be a bumpy ride and after aborting its original planned take off way back in summer 2019, fans had high hopes that its new home in November is one it wouldn’t move from. The disappointing news broke last night that Paramount has shifted the release again and the Top Gun sequel is now set to touch down in cinemas in May 2022. The knock-on effect of that delay is that the long-awaited seventh instalment of the Mission: Impossible franchise, also starring Tom Cruise, has moved from that date and is now set for September 2022. That’s not all, Paramount has pushed back the release of Jackass Forever which was due this October, but now fans will have to wait until February for a reunion with Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, and the rest of the crew. Also on the move was Ghostbusters: Afterlife as Sony swooped on Top Gun: Maverick’s departure and claimed its November 19 space on the release runway.
