A decade has passed since evil spirits attempted to drag a comatose Dalton down to their dark spectral realm and now, when he’s left the family home for university, those memories are finally floating to the surface, bringing all sorts of sinister secrets with them.

The fifth and final instalment in the frightening franchise sees the original cast return, with Rose Byrne as Renai, Ty Simpkins as poor little Dalton all grown up, and Patrick Wilson not only back as Josh Lambert, but also taking the director’s chair for the first time. Of course, there are ghosts, spirits, and a familiar Red Face Demon returning too as we go back to where it all began and venture deeper into The Further than ever before.

Boo!

Jump scares are often unfairly labelled a lazy tool for an easy scare, but when implemented effectively, the heart racing results are unforgettable. Insidious is responsible for the scariest jump scare ever according to science and there’s sure to be plenty more as the Lamberts face their demons.

Cat People

Jump scares are nicknamed a “Lewton Bus” due to the 1942 film. Who’d have thought a bus harmlessly screeching into frame could be quite so scary?

The Exorcist III

Widely considered the scariest scene in horror keeps you waiting for the longest time before delivering a scare that actually makes viewers feel a little sick.

The Midnight Club

Mike Flanagan broke the world record with a whopping twenty-one jump scares in the first episode of his Netflix series.
