Following his successful, star-studded Jungle Book remake, director Jon Favreau is taking to the African savannah for a remake of Disney’s legendary The Lion King, and he’s assembled quite a cast.

We’ve known for some time that Donald Glover would be starring as Simba, but Disney has now confirmed that Beyonce is co-starring as Simba’s childhood friend and eventual love interest Nala. Joining the pair are James Earl Jones who reprises his iconic role from the 1994 original as Simba’s heroic father Mufasa and Chiwetel Ejiofor who plays the villainous part of Simba’s treasonous uncle Scar. But the names don’t stop there; the supporting cast sees Alfre Woodard as Simba’s mother Sarabi, John Oliver as Mufasa’s adviser Zazu, John Kani as the enigmatic baboon Rafiki, and Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Simba’s fan-favourite comrades Timon and Pumbaa. The three menacing hyenas Azizi, Shenzi, and Kamari are played by Eric Andre, Florence Kasumba, and Keegan-Michael Key with child actors JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph rounding off an incredible and exciting cast as the younger versions of Simba and Nala.
