Director Todd Phillips’ plans for his all-new take on the iconic Batman villain to be a dark and gritty character study are well known, but if any doubts lingered as to what that exactly meant, there are no more as an incredibly dark and disturbing final trailer documents Arthur Fleck’s descent into madness. While the first trailer for the hotly-anticipated DC drama introduced us to failed comedian Arthur Fleck at his lowest, the new trailer primarily focuses on the aftermath of his journey where he’s at his most triumphant; pictured in colourful clown makeup, perfecting his super creepy laugh, and taking up a sinister new stage name: Joker. The trailer comes with a lot of all-new footage from the film that gives a better look at the supporting cast - Robert De Niro as late-night TV personality Murray Franklin, Zazie Beetz as a love interest Sophie Dumond, and Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne – but also reveals that Arthur isn’t the only one wearing a clown mask as the streets of Gotham become swarmed with rioting clowns.
