Following on from the poster that dropped over the weekend, we finally have a first look at the new Ghostbusters film and its official title. Directed by Jason Reitman, the son of the director of the original films Ivan Reitman, Ghostbusters: Afterlife transports us to the Summerville, Oklahoma where single mother Callie and her two children move into an old farmhouse they inherit from a dead relative. Not long after moving in, Callie’s children – rebellious teenage son Trevor and science-mad daughter Phoebe – experience supernatural spooks and discover ancient eighties tech that reveals them as the grandchildren of Egon Spengler; Harold Ramis’ character from the original films. And it’s that revelation that excites Paul Rudd’s Mr Grooberson, Phoebe’s teacher who is a huge Ghostbusters fan and is in the middle of his own paranormal investigation surrounding the series of unexplained tremors terrorising the town. Sadly, there is no sign of the stars of the original film, though Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver are all set to appear in the film. From ghost traps and boiler suits to proton packs and a joyride in a rusted out but fully operational Ecto-1, there’s more than enough nostalgia and classic action to give every Ghostbusters fan goosebumps.
