In the heart of New York;s famous Theatre District, Sardi's Restaurant has been a beloved Broadway institution for over a century. A legendary pre- and post-show haunt for theatre insiders, it's woven into the very fabric of Broadway history and famously served as the birthplace of the Tony Awards.
On another landmark night in musical theatre history, specifically March 31, 1943, legendary lyricist Lorenz Hart confronts his shattered self-confidence in Sardi's bar as his former collaborator Richard Rodgers celebrates the opening night of his groundbreaking hit musical Oklahoma!
BAFTA-winning filmmaker Richard Linklater reunites with his longtime collaborator Ethan Hawke - star of his Before trilogy and Boyhood - for this portrait of a tormented Hart. Through the haze of heartache and bourbon, Hart reflects on a once-brilliant creative partnership and the melodies that defined him: "The Lady is a Tramp," "My Funny Valentine," and the timeless title track, "Blue Moon."
Over a bittersweet evening, Hart finds solace in Margaret Qualley's Elizabeth, trades barstool banter with Bobby Cannavale's Eddie, and braces for a reunion with Rodgers. Andrew Scott completes the cast as the composer, on the night his iconic partnership with Oscar Hammerstein begins.
