After tackling the tough truth of the impact of austerity in I, Daniel Blake and exposing the cruelty of the gig economy in Sorry We Missed You, Ken Loach returns with another hard-hitting and heartwarming social drama that calls for compassion towards migration. The trailer sees tensions rise in a small Northeast mining town after the arrival of Syrian refugees in the struggling, impoverished community. We’re also introduced to the key players at the heart of the story as Dave Turner stars as the kind-hearted landlord of the local pub, while Ebla Mari takes the role of an aspiring photographer from Syria. They find themselves as unlikely allies and their efforts to bring the two communities together becomes the basis for a deeply-moving drama and critical social commentary on modern-day Britian. The Old Oak opens its doors in cinemas September 29.
