One of the most memorable movie monsters rises again – but this time, he’s not alone. He’s at his bride’s side as she takes centre stage of a fresh haunt.

Frankenstein’s Monster craves a companion, and finds it in the form of a reanimated corpse of a murdered woman. But the course of true love never did run smooth.

Written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Bride! stitches together pieces from Mary Shelley’s original novel, the 1935 Boris Karloff horror classic Bride Of Frankenstein, and modern sensibilities to create a wholly new creature. Where the surface has only really been scratched so far, this version gouges deep through flesh and feeling, cutting a bloody swathe as the pair get to grips with what it truly means to be alive.

Gyllenhaal makes it a family affair, casting her baby brother Jake and husband Peter Sarsgaard alongside Oscar-winners Christian Bale and Penélope Cruz, and BAFTA-winner Annette Bening. But make no mistake: this is Jessie Buckley’s house and her performance promises to be a standout in an already storied career.

An instant classic in the making, The Bride! is already turning heads with a gothic style and costumes that are destined to become a fancy dress staple. Just don’t expect that dress to stay white for long.

Deadly Duos

Thelma And Louise

Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis blaze through Ridley Scott's iconic road movie as two women exacting revenge on men who are neither normal nor innocent. Feel-good and fear-inducing in equal measure, but there's no doubt who's side we're on.

Bonnie And Clyde

These real-life rogues have inpisred adaptations aplenty, but none better than the 1967 classic starring Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. The loved-up outlaws lie, cheat, and steal their way across America. Aww.

Mickey And Mallory Knox

Keeping it romantic - if unhinged - Natural Born Killers sees the newlywed Knoxes begin a violent voyage of vengeance, too. Only, they're enjoying it way too much. Written by Tarantino and scored by Nine Inch Nails, missing this is criminal.
