The Batman Teaser

Robert Pattinson becomes the bat in the first look at Matt Reeves’ The Batman

The main reveal from the DC FanDome event was the teaser for the new Batman film, written and directed by the Planet Of The Apes films’ Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattison as Gotham’s billionaire vigilante. Set to Nirvana’s Something In The Way, it’s a bleak, sombre, almost gothic trailer for a film that promises to go even darker than The Dark Knight and turn the comic books and graphic novels into a gritty crime drama. Plot specifics are being kept under wraps, but like Joker it’s another standalone entry in the DCEU that will see Bruce Wayne set out to end the criminality and corruption in Gotham. As well as showcasing Pattinson as Bruce Wayne and his cowled crime-fighting alter ego, the trailer also gives glimpses of some of the ensemble set to bring Gotham’s famous characters to life. We hear the voice of Andy Serkis’ Alfred before being shown Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton aka Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as GCPD’s James Gordon, and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-him glance at Colin Farrell who is barely recognisable as Oswald Cobblepot aka Penguin. Our first look at John Turturro’s Carmine Falcone Peter Sarsgaard’s D.A. Gil Colson, Barry Keoghan’s Officer Stanley Merkel, and the rest of the supporting cast will have to wait for future trailers or when The Batman arrives on the big screen in October 2021.
