Narrated by Julie Kavner, who knows a thing or two about dysfunctional families as the unmistakeable voice of Marge Simpson, the trailer introduces a family that could give the iconic cartoon clan a run for their money. At its heart is Emma Mackey as the titular Ella, a young woman navigating life’s ups and downs. From a strained relationship with the estranged father who’s now back in her life to the strength gained from her supportive aunt, and lingering grief over her late mother, Ella’s journey is as poignant as it is comic, and relatable. The trailer gives a moment to each of the stellar ensemble cast that includes Woody Harrelson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Lowden, Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Spike Fearn, Julie Kavner, Rebecca Hall, Becky Ann Baker, Joey Brooks, and Albert Brooks. It’s been fifteen years since James L. Brooks last film and this warmhearted comedy signals a triumphant return for the Academy Award-winning writer-director of Terms Of Endearment, Broadcast News, and As Good As It Gets. Brooks looks to be back to his very best, Ella McCay opens in cinemas December 12.
