Golden Globes awarded, Oscar nominations revealed – now it’s BAFTA’s turn. For the first time, the announcement arrives after the Academy's, and while the longlist hinted at the shape of the race, it's only now that there's a true picture for who's in the running.

Sinners dominated at the Oscars, but at BAFTA, it’s One Battle After Another storming ahead with fourteen nominations across the board. The thrilling, politically-charged epic is up for Best Film, Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, and named in every acting category – sometimes more than once. Leonardo DiCaprio is eyeing up a second-ever BAFTA for Leading Actor, Chase Infiniti competes for Leading Actress, Teyana Taylor is recognised for Supporting Actress, and Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro go head-to-head in Supporting Actor.

It's shaping up to be a neck-and-neck showdown, fitting, given that Ryan Coogler’s Oscars-record-breaking, audacious vampire film sits just one behind on thirteen nominations. Michael B. Jordan continues to receive acclaim for his dual performance, named in the BAFTA race for Leading Actor alongside Robert Aramayo, Timothée Chalamet, Ethan Hawke, and Jesse Plemons.

Hamnet and Marty Supreme also emerge as major contenders, each securing eleven nominations apiece. Jessie Buckley, the luminous centre of Chloé Zhao’s heart aching romance, is nominated for Leading Actress alongside Rose Byrne, Kate Hudson, Renate Reinsve, and two-time BAFTA-winner Emma Stone.

It’s of course a celebration of global cinema as a whole, but BAFTA remains a showcase for British filmmaking. I Swear earns five nominations, while The Ballad Of Wallis Island and Pillion take three each. All three compete for Outstanding British Film against 28 Years Later, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, Die My Love, H Is For Hawk, Hamnet, Mr Burton, and Steve.

Multi-award-winning actor, writer, producer, and TV host Alan Cumming steps in as host of this year’s EE BAFTA Film Awards ceremony at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday 22 February.
