On the eve of their all-new take on Dr Seuss’ The Grinch, Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures dropped the first look at their sequel to their successful 2016 animation The Secret Life Of Pets. Fans will instantly notice a major change from the previous film as disgraced comedian Louis C.K. is no longer the voice of Max, instead Patton Oswalt has stepped in to join returning cast members Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Jenny Slate, Albert Brooks, and Hannibal Buress who all reprise their voice roles. The returning actors are joined by series newcomers Tiffany Haddish and Harrison Ford in his first animated voice role. However, much like the teaser for the first film, which hilariously revealed what our pets get up to while we’re not around, characters and narrative aren’t the focus as we instead join Max as he faces every pet’s worst nightmare; a trip to the vets! The 90-second teaser plays out as an anthropomorphised One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest as Max makes acquaintance with animals in the waiting room with all manner of behavioural issues. The central “what your pets are really thinking” gag is as strong as ever, but it seems we need to get ready for a sequel that promises things are about to get a lot weirder.
