A tantalising teaser gave our first glimpse at Disney’s Strange World, now a wondrous new trailer arrives to set up a story that’s straight out of classic pulp sci-fi magazines of yesteryear. The trailer introduces Searcher Clade, voiced by Jake Gyllenhaal, the son of legendary explorer as he’s unexpectedly launched onto a mission to the stars. His crew – his pilot/partner Meridian and their teenage son Ethan, voiced by Gabrielle Union and Jaboukie Young-White respectively – join the president Callisto Mal’s, voiced by Lucy Liu, expedition into uncharted territory. They soon find themselves on a peculiar planet full of wonder, impossibilities, a familiar sense of Disney magic, and all manner of otherworldly creatures. There are shoals of literal flying fish, terrifying tentacled creatures, and a jelly-like being that’s not quite as cute and cuddle as it first appears, but the biggest surprise to Searcher is this Strange World is also home to his long-lost father Jaeger, voiced by Dennis Quaid, who went missing many years ago and has no memory of the time before. While Jaeger’s great sense of adventure seems to have skipped a generation with Searcher, who has never followed his father’s footsteps, it is certainly strong in his own son Ethan who jumps at the chance for a family adventure. The three generations of the Clades must set aside their differences and learn to work together if they’re to survive this wondrous, whimsical, at times very dangerous, and definitely Strange World. Disney’s animated sci-fi adventure launches in cinemas November 23.
