From the director of Big Hero 6, Moana, and Raya And The Last Dragon comes a new breed of animated Disney adventure, one that harks back to the fifties sci-fi serials of yesteryear. It’s old-school, but still finds the time to inject a modern sense of adventure that kids young and old can enjoy.

Blasting off to a place where nothing is as it first appears, Strange World sees the infamous Clade clan of explorers journey to the depths of an uncharted planet where they must learn how to work together to survive and not fall out as a family. From blue gloop creatures to pieces of environment that can get up and walk themselves off, this latest expedition gives Jake Gyllenhaal’s intrepid Searcher a chance to finally prove himself as more than just a simple farmer. Doing so, however, is easier said than done.

Joining Gyllenhaal and further fleshing out the Clade family are Bring It On’s Gabrielle Union as Searcher’s wife Meridian, stand-up comic Jaboukie Young-White as their son Ethan, and the legendary Dennis Quaid as grandfather Jaeger. Lucy Liu also joins the cast as Callisto Mal, the president of Avalonia who leads the expedition to Strange World

Regardless of your fondness of its B-movie retro style, Strange World is primed to deliver a colourful amount of wonder and mystery for the whole family.

Out Of This World

Treasure Planet

The animated sci-fi spin on Robert Louis Stevenson's pirate classic is far better than it has any right to be, swapping islands for planets and quirky castaways for robot companions. An early Joseph Gordon-Levitt performance helps make Jim Hawkins' instellar jounrey a firm family favourite.

Wall-E

Pixar's masterful approach to storytelling is on full display yet again in a surprisingly poignant tale of a robot travelling across the galaxy after falling in love. Much like the humans aboard the Axiom, we're always glued to our seats.

Mars Needs Moms

Don't be put off by its motion-capture animation style, the story of a nine-year-old trying to rescue his mum back from aliens is surprisingly heartfelt and has the makings of a true cult classic.
