Lionsgate has revealed the first look at the sequel to the heartwarming film starring Jacob Tremblay, Julia Roberts, and Owen Wilson that touched hearts and sparked the “Choose Kind” movement. Based on R.J. Palacio’s best-selling book, the inspirational next chapter is in fact closer to a spin-off than a direct sequel as the trailer shifts the focus from Auggie Pullman and follows Bryce Gheisar’s Julian Albans a few years after the events of Wonder as he continues to struggle after being expelled from his former school for bullying Auggie. To help him find the right path, his grandmother, played by Helen Mirren, shares her own story of courage. Jumping between past and present, the trailer takes us back to Nazi-occupied France to show how as a child she was sheltered from danger by a brave boy and his family. Ariella Glaser stars as the young version of Helen Mirren’s character and is joined by Orlando Schwerdt as the kind-hearted schoolmate she befriends and Gillian Anderson as his mother. The director of Finding Neverland and Christopher Robin, Marc Forster, returns to pull a few more heartstrings with this emotional and uplifting story about the power of kindness. White Bird: A Wonder Story will remind us to Choose Kind in cinemas October 14.
