The trailer opens in a courtroom as grieving mother Mamie Till recounts the tragic tale of her fourteen-year-old son Emmett who, in 1955, travelled from their home in Chicago to visit his cousins in Mississippi, but never came home. The trailer gives a snapshot of the bright young boy and his horrifying experiences in a city where racial prejudices were far more rife than anything he'd seen before and where he ultimately becomes the victim of a sickening lynching after being accused of offending a white woman. The barbaric crime is only half of this story and serves as a backdrop to an powerful and inspiring tale of courage that takes us through Mamie Till’s pursuit of justice and change as she rose to become a powerful figure in the Civil Rights Movement. In the midst of her grief, she chose to stand up and refused to shy away, arranging an open casket viewing where the press could photograph and publish images so the world could witness the horror of her son’s body. The true story of Emmett Till and the mother who sought justice on his behalf comes to cinemas January 6.
