The Woman King Trailer
Viola Davis, John Boyega, and Lashana Lynch great ready for war in the fierce first look at The Woman King.
Bend the knee to Gina Prince-Bythewood’s historical epic that’s inspired by true events and tells the untold story of an all-female army who rise up to fight for their freedom and future. The trailer takes us back to nineteenth-century Africa as white settlers arrive on the shores seeking to claim and colonise the land as their own, but face the wrath of a defiant and courageous warrior. The Academy Award-winning star of The Help, Widows, and The Suicide Squad plays General Nanisca, a tribe leader who will stop at nothing to protect the Kingdom of Dahomey – once located within what is now present-day Benin – and raises a fearsome army of all-female warriors for battle against the invading enemy. The trailer brings breathtaking footage of training sequences as Nanisca readies her new recruits as well as stoking an intense atmosphere for what promises to be an emotionally epic journey, plus there’s a first look at the support cast that includes John Boyega, Lashana Lynch, Thuso Mbedu, and Sheila Atim. Viola Davis is The Woman King, kneel before her in cinemas October 4.
