After fulfilling his career-long dream of completing his passion project with West Side Story, Spielberg goes back to where it all began with his latest and most personal film yet, a semi-autobiographical tale about how he discovered a passion for cinema and his family life inspired him. The trailer opens on the very moment a young Sammy Fabelman first discovers a passion for cinema before jumping forward in time to follow his teenage years spent pursuing his dream while his family falls apart around him. Newcomer Gabriel LaBelle stars as the sixteen-year-old aspiring filmmaker who would become one of the industry’s best directors and is supported by an ensemble cast that includes Michelle Williams as his artistic mother, Paul Dano as his more practical-minded father, Seth Rogen as his honorary uncle, and Judd Hirsch as his great uncle. But this film is just as much about the talent behind the lens as Spielberg reunites with his Academy Award-winning regulars cinematographer Janusz Kaminski, editor Michael Kahn, and legendary composer John Williams. Fabelmans also marks Spielberg’s first screenwriting credit in forty years as he reunites with frequent collaborator Tony Kushner for their fourth film together following Munich, Lincoln, and West Side Story. The Fabelmans comes to cinemas January 27.
