True horror has definitely returned in the trailer for the third film in The Conjuring franchise. The first look at the film sees Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their roles as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, but this time they’re facing a different kind of evil. Unlike the previous films, the Warrens won’t be investigating a haunted house, no, The Devil made Me Do It recounts the time they were caught up in the case of Arne Johnson, a man on trial for murder but pleaded not guilty by reason of demonic possession. It’s a daring departure from the tried and tested formula that’s seen the Conjuring franchise become a firm favourite among horror fans, but an impressive one that takes it to a different, much darker place. The trailer is packed with plenty of the jump scares and tense moments that fans love and have come to expect, but with the addition of witchcraft, curses, and possession as the Warrens face an evil much more powerful than anything they’ve encountered before, this third film has all the makings of the most nightmare-inducing chapter yet.
