Taking us back to 1940s Kent, at the height of the Second World War, the trailer introduces Arterton’s Alice, an independent folklore investigator and recluse. Haunted by heartbreak, Alice has buried her past and secluded herself in study. Alice’s quiet life in isolation is turned upside down when she’s forced to take in an evacuee from the London Blitz. Summerland promises to be a real tearjerker as young Frank’s infectious high spirits begin to break down Alice’s barriers leading her to confront the memories and feelings she’s kept buried for far too long. Written and directed by award-winning playwright and filmmaker Jessica Swale, Summerland sees Gemma Arterton star alongside an excellent ensemble cast that includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Tom Courtenay, Penelope Wilton, and newcomer Lucas Bond.
