The trailer for the new mystery thriller from one of the minds behind the hit HBO series drops us into dystopian Miami where rising water levels triggered a war that left those still living on the sunken coast longing for the past. And its within memory where this mind-bending mystery sets its stage as Hugh Jackman’s private investigator, Nick, helps his clients access lost memories. The trailer shows his tricks of the trade, the machine he uses to enter memories, and also his first meeting with Rebecca Ferguson’s Mae; an alluring client who he met sometime ago but has since gone missing. Now, against all the advice from his assistant - played by Thandiwe Newton - Nick decides to dive into the past in the hope that discovering where she came from would lead him to where she has gone. From the striking sci-fi visuals of the sunken city and the booming soundtrack to the incredible practical effects and romance at the centre of the puzzle, the trailer has Nolan's influence all over it yet establishes enough originality to feel like a breath of fresh air. Take the plunge into the past when Reminiscence opens in cinemas on August 18.
