Ten years ago, the crowd-pleasing instant classic opened eyes to the world of exotic male dancing as Mike Lake makes his debut and its sequel, that followed give years later, showcases his meteoric rise as a stripper. Now, Channing Tatum, director Steven Soderbergh, and writer Reid Carolin reunite for the third and final chapter that sees the veteran dancer take the stage for one last dance and end his career with a bang. It’s been quite the journey for Channing Tatum’s titular heartthrob, but it’s not quite over yet as the trailer catches up with him a few years after the events of Magic Mike XXL and after a bad business deal has left him broke and bartending. But his passion for doing what he does best is reignited by a chance encounter with Salma Hayek’s wealthy socialist who promptly whisks him away to London where they’ll stage a show at a grand theatre. The all-energy trailer showcases lots of smouldering sequences, sexual tension between the two leads, and the promise of plenty of drama. But it also sets up what appears to be the most musical film of the franchise yet, with lots of dancing – whether it’s in rehearsals as we see Mike whipping his new ensemble into stripping shape, a flashback to him at the height of his game entertaining a hen party, and even making a woman’s dream come true on a double-decker bus. Magic Mike’s Last Dance is coming just in time for Valentine’s Day, in cinemas February 10.
