Escape the bitter coldness of these past lockdown months and enjoy the sunny trailer for Luca as Disney and Pixar invite you to a summer you’ll never forget. Instantly grabbing attention with a stunning new art style, the trailer plays out to set up the familiar hilarious and heartfelt storytelling we’ve come to expect from the studio behind so many of our favourite films. Pixar look to be at their best as they whisk us away to summer in the Italian Riviera for a coming-of-age story that follows Luca and his best friend Alberto as they enjoy the spoils of summer. But, as you’d expect, there’s something fishy going on, as the trailer reveals another textbook Pixar twist on classic genre convention. Above the water, Luca and Alberto appear to be two adventurous but very ordinary boys, but take a look below the surface and they’re actually fish-like creatures not too dissimilar to mermaids. Room star Jacob Tremblay and Shazam’s Jack Dylan Grazer have been confirmed as the voices of Luca and Alberto respectively and the film follows their adventures on land where they befriend a human girl – voiced by newcomer Emma Berman. The trouble is, the duo must keep their secret safe in town that lives in fear of legendary stories of sea monsters that come from another world below the water’s surface. Pack your bags and get ready for an unforgettable summer as Luca is set to arrive in cinemas this June.
