The first trailer for Lady Bird writer/director Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Little Women introduces the four sisters at the centre of her adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel. Reunited with Lady Bird director, Saoirse Ronan stars as the tomboyish sister Jo, an aspiring writer who is working on a novel about her own life. Emma Watson plays eldest March sister and hopeless romantic Meg. Eliza Scanlen, who shone in HBO’s Sharp Objects, plays the sensitive and caring Beth while Fighting With My Family’s Florence Pugh takes the role as fiery and outspoken youngest sibling Amy. It’s a timeless, and timely, coming-of-age tale and the trailer follows the girls as they grow up together and each blossom into a headstrong woman determined to live life on her own terms. The trailer also shows off the all-star support cast including Laura Dern as Marmee, Meryl Streep as Aunt March, and Timothée Chalamet as the handsome boy next door Laurie. Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women is a classic story that filmmakers can’t stop adapting for the screen but with Lady Bird’s Greta Gerwig bringing her unique sense and sensibility – and assembling a stellar ensemble cast – all signs point to this being the best yet.
