The mere mention of rebooting a childhood favourite usually causes as much commotion as a dog loose in a playground. But with Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, the concept was creative and the casting so inspired, that the 2017 movie managed to circumvent comparisons to the 1993 Robin Williams’ classic.

That, and nearly a billion more reasons (in US box-office takings) made a follow-up almost inevitable. Selecting not to rest on their laurels though, director Jake Kasdan and co-writers Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg have powered up their game with Jumanji: The Next Level where our heroes get to venture deeper and darker into this dangerous game than ever before in a bid to rescue one of their own.

Thankfully, with added danger comes bigger belly laughs. A new round of character selections sees Hollywood legend Danny DeVito stepping into the oversized shoes of Dr Smolder Bravestone (Dwayne Johnson) while Danny “I’m getting too old for this…” Glover ducks down to embody the diminutive Franklin “Moose” Finbar (Kevin Hart). Throw in Jack Black’s character flipping the script and Karen Gillan being the action hero we need and really, what more could you want? Game on!

Level Up!

Location. Location. Location

This time around, Jumanji takes us on a tour through increasingly hostile jungle landscapes, to the perilous vertical slopes of the arctic tundra via vast arid deserts. How on earth do you pack for a trip like that?

The Baddies And The Bosses

Despite having their hands full battling their own unfamiliar avatars, this time the gang fall foul of massive man-eating anacondas, an army of baboons with anger-management issues, and some Jurassic World-esque ostriches? Quick…leg it!

If You Smeelll…

DeVito as “The Rock” is one of the greatest casting choices since DeVito and Schwarzenegger brother-ed up in Twins and proves, as if proof were needed, that The Rock is so much more than an animated eyebrow and a stunning set of quads.
