Mad Max: Fury Road remains one of the most celebrated action movies of the twenty-first century, lauded for its incredible stunts, practical effects, gorgeous visuals, and pulse-pounding soundtrack. Acclaimed filmmaker George Miller returns to this post-apocalyptic wasteland of his own creation once again – this time in a prequel set years before the events of Fury Road. Winding the clock back means introducing a new cast, new characters, and new, unexplored corners of a world rife with madness.

Anya Taylor-Joy is in the driver’s seat this time, stepping into the titular role immortalised by Charlize Theron. Furiosa’s journey begins when she’s snatched away from the idyllic Green Place and forced into the clutches of Chris Hemsworth’s Warlord Dementus, who chews the gritty scenery in a role with all the charm and look of Thor, but with heroism swapped for gleeful villainy.

Furiosa’s odyssey to get back to her family takes place across fifteen years and is stacked full of vehicular mayhem and explosions galore.

Although a prequel, Furiosa promises to deliver our best look at the Mad Max universe yet, ironically in the absence of the iconic antihero, though he’s definitely somewhere in the expansive background. This Mad Max Saga is sure to light up cinemas just as much as its predecessor as it goes full throttle in delivering more chaotic, genre-defining action.
