The trailer for the terrifying new instalment in Sam Raimi’s iconic 1980s horror franchise moves the terror out of a cabin in the woods and into a small apartment in the big city. Bruce Campbell isn’t along for this ride, but he and Raimi give their seal of approval on a fresh new Evil Dead story where family and the loss of loved ones is at its core. The film revolves around Lily Sullivan’s Beth reuniting with her estranged sister, Alyssa Sutherland’s Ellie, and her children. Only, one of them has discovered the Book of the Dead and inadvertently unleashed hell. Ellie becomes possessed and now Beth must protect the family from the mother of all evil. The trailer promises many Necronomicon nightmares with plenty of nods to the original films, including a foul-mouthed- flesh-possessed Deadite, chainsaws, and lots and lots of blood. But much like Fede Álvarez 2013 remake, writer-director Lee Cronin is taking the gore to the next level with a glimpse at shocking scenes involving scalping, glass-eating, a tattoo needle, and a cheese grater. The result is sure to be the scariest film in the franchise. Witness the mother of all evil in cinemas April 21.
