Stripped of any of the trademark tongue-in-cheek humour, the serious new look at the next chapter in the Ant-Man saga catches up with Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang in the aftermath of Endgame where he’s still struggling to come to terms with the amount of time he’s lost. He’s searching for an opportunity to make up for lost time and, after returning to the Quantum Realm with the help of his now-grown-up daughter’s device, he gets the chance by meeting the man who can make his dreams a reality. Jonathan Majors made his debut as Kang in the small screen series Loki and briefly appeared in the first trailer, now he’s fully revealed as a powerful being who can manipulate time. Despite warnings from his family, Scott makes a deal with this new ally, but faces dangerous consequences as the trailer reveals that putting his trust in Kang might bring the Avenger a brutal end. The time-bending trailer treats us to lots of new footage of the weird and wonderful goings on within the Quantum Realm with more size-changing shenanigans, a swarm of Ant-Men, and even a quick glimpse at the classic Marvel villain MODOK. The Multiverse Of Madness was only the beginning for this new era of the MCU, the secret universe below our own pushes the limits of what anyone thought possible with sprawling otherworldly landscapes and all manner of peculiar begins that Scott Lang, Hope Van Dyne, Cassie, and Hope’s parents Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne will encounter. Where the previous Ant-Man films were very much ancillary spin-off stories to flesh out a few extra details, very big things await this time as the opener for Phase 5 will have a crucial role in the future of the MCU. Ant-Man is the first Avenger to come face to face with the new major MCU villain as Jonathan majors makes his ominous arrival as Kang The Conqueror.
