Arriving ahead of its UK premiere closing the BFI London Film Festival this weekend, the tender trailer introduces Kate Winslet as celebrated self-taught palaeontologist Mary Anning and Saoirse Ronan as her protégé, geologist Charlotte Murchison. Set in 1840s England, Ammonite tells the story of Mary’s life and he relationship with Charlotte and the trailer shows the pair beginning to fall in love as they stave off loneliness and Charlotte awakens something in Mary that sparks a romance forbidden by the times they live. Francis Lee, the director of the award-winning God’s Own Country, follows his successful debut with a steamy period drama that swaps the beautifully bleak Yorkshire Moors with the equally emotive backdrop of Lyme Regis coastline to tell another tale of forbidden love. Ammonite has its UK premiere out of the BFI London Film Festival and will be coming soon to UK cinemas.
