Darkly comic, tongue in cheek, and inescapably charming, the trailer invites you to a quintessentially British, big screen bash that celebrates our beloved National Health Service. The guest list is stacked full of best-of-British onscreen talent as Jennifer Saunders, Judi Dench, Derek Jacobi, David Bradley, Russell Tovey, and Julia McKenzie are named among its stars. But this all-star adaptation of Alan Bennett’s stage play of the same name is just as much a celebration of British talent behind the scenes too as it comes from celebrated director of stage and screen Richard Eyre and from a screenplay from Call The Midwife writer Heidi Thomas. Allelujah is set within a geriatric ward in a small Yorkshire hospital that is threatened with closure, but sees the patients, staff, and community stand up and fight back. Packed full of heart and humour, the trailer shines a light on some of the lives within the hospital, from the elderly patients facing an uncertain future as they battle illness and old age to the hardworking hospital staff who are under immense pressure. Set for release in the same year the NHS celebrates its seventy-fifth anniversary, Save the Beth in cinemas March 17.
