The duo star as a wealthy couple from London, David and Jo Henninger, who are speeding through the Moroccan desert to attend an old friend’s lavish weekend party. From their toxic glances and barbed interactions, it’s clear their little holiday is offering little escape from a failing marriage. The clear tension between the two is heightened when, during an argument, they tragically kill a local teenage boy and David reveals that he’s been drinking. Rather than reporting the crime and facing the consequences, they continue on their journey with the boy’s body onboard. Upon arriving at the grand villa, they ask their friend and the local police to help them cover up the incident. When the boy’s father arrives seeking justice, their dream short break turns into a tension-filled nightmare where cultures clash and the couple are forced to face the shattering consequences of their fateful act. In addition to teasing two of cinema’s biggest names at the top of their game, the trailer also highlights the star-studded support cast with glimpses of Caleb Landry Jones, Christopher Abbott, Ismael Kanater, and Matt Smith as the couple’s friend; a British national residing in the luxurious mansion in the middle of the harsh Moroccan desert. The Forgiven comes to cinemas September 2.
