The original BBC Three documentary, Jamie: Drag Queen At 16, was a big hit when it aired back in 2011 and has since inspired an award-winning musical that has been a stage sensation since 2017, now the inspirational true story is coming to life on the big screen. Packed full of passion and pride, the heartwarming and emotional trailer introduces us to Jamie New as he reveals to his careers class his ambitions to be a performer. But his journey is going to be a tough one as he faces ridicule from his classmates and rejection from his father. With the help of his best friend, support from his mother, and guidance from an experience performer, Jamie sets out to overcome prejudice, beat the bullies and step out into the spotlight to fulfil his dream of becoming a drag queen. Jonathan Butterell makes his film directorial debut as he takes his production from stage to screen with a modern-day Billy Elliot story that’s already looking set to be the feel-good film of 2021. As well as teasing some of the extravagant costumes, songs, and dance numbers, the trailer also gives fans a good look at the exciting cast that includes newcomer Max Harwood as Jamie, Sarah Lancashire as Jamie’s mum, Ralph Ineson as his father, Lauren Patel as his best friend Pritti, Sharon Horgan as his teacher Miss Hedge, and Richard E. Grant as Hugo Battersby and his glamorous drag queen alter ego Loco Chanelle. Everybody’s Talking About Jami is set to arrive in UK cinemas in 26 February 2021.
